Usually because you take mocks without fixing what they show, your accuracy is too low, or one section is holding back the total. Stop new mocks for a few days, repair the two costliest topics, then test again.
A plateau almost always has a specific cause. Look for it in your last five mocks instead of taking a sixth.
The common causes
| Cause | How to spot it | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Too many mocks, too little analysis | Same mistakes in every mock | One mock every 2-3 days with full analysis |
| Low accuracy | Wrong answers are a fifth or more of attempts | Attempt fewer, choose better |
| One weak section | One section is consistently far below the others | Daily sectional tests in that section for 2 weeks |
| Slow calculation | Quant attempts stay low even on easy papers | Daily 20-minute simplification drill |
| Puzzle time sink | Over 8 minutes on one puzzle | Strict 5-minute rule per set |
| Weak base topics | Wrong on the same topic types again and again | Re-learn that topic from basics |
A two-week reset
- Days 1-2: go through your last five mocks. List the topics where you lost the most marks.
- Days 3-9: no full mocks. Practise the top three topics daily plus sectional tests.
- Days 10-14: three full mocks with analysis. Compare the average with your earlier five.
Check your mistake book
If you redo old wrong questions and still get many wrong, the issue is concept, not speed. Go back to the method for those topics before any more mocks.
Check the mock itself
Sometimes the plateau is not yours. If you switched to a harder mock series, your raw score can stay flat while you actually improve. Compare your percentile or rank within the same series over time, and occasionally take a previous-year paper to check your level against the real exam.
