Sectional mock tests for bank exams let you practise one subject at a time under real timing, and on Banker Anisha they are free for every SBI Clerk Prelims and Mains section. You can also take a 30-question mini mock or build a custom test from the topics you choose.
Sectional or full mock: which one when
A full mock tells you where you stand. A sectional mock helps you change it. Both are needed, in different proportions at different times.
| Sectional mock | Full mock | |
|---|---|---|
| Time needed | 20 to 45 minutes | 60 minutes (Prelims) or 160 (Mains) |
| Good for | Fixing one subject, testing a new attempt order | Overall timing, stamina, section switching |
| Use most | While you are still covering the syllabus | Last four to six weeks before the exam |
| Review takes | About as long as the test | About as long as the test, often more |
A reasonable middle-phase week has three or four sectionals and one or two full mocks.
The sectional tests you can take
Prelims sections
- English Language: 30 questions, 20 minutes
- Numerical Ability: 35 questions, 20 minutes
- Reasoning Ability: 35 questions, 20 minutes
Mains sections
- General/Financial Awareness: 50 questions, 35 minutes
- General English: 40 questions, 35 minutes
- Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions, 45 minutes
- Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude: 50 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
Each sectional uses the same topic mix as that section of a full mock, and the same negative marking.
Two more formats: mini and custom
Mini mock. 30 questions, 10 from each Prelims section, with 7 minutes per section (21 minutes in all). It keeps the same per-question pace as Prelims. It is useful on days when you cannot spare an hour, and early on when a full mock would only discourage you.
Custom test. You choose the topics, the number of questions and the time. Some ways to use it:
- Pick inequality, syllogism and alphanumeric series for a 15-minute reasoning speed drill.
- Combine your three weakest arithmetic chapters into one 20-question test.
- Mix banking awareness, RBI and financial terms for a GA revision round.
A weekly rotation using sectionals
| Day | Test | Follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Prelims Quant sectional | 20 questions from the weakest Quant topic |
| Tuesday | Prelims Reasoning sectional | Two puzzle sets |
| Wednesday | Prelims English sectional | One passage and 15 error detection |
| Thursday | Custom test on three weak topics | Mistake book |
| Friday | Mini mock | Review |
| Saturday | Full Prelims mock | Full review |
| Sunday | Rest or light revision | Bookmarks |
Three traps with sectional practice
- Only taking sectionals in your strong subject. It feels good and changes nothing. Rotate, and give the weakest section an extra slot each week.
- Forgetting that the real exam switches subjects. In a full Prelims mock you go from English straight into Quant with no break. A sectional never tests that, which is why full mocks still matter.
- Using untimed custom tests as if they were mocks. A custom test is a drill. Set a time limit close to the exam pace, about 35 seconds a question for Prelims topics, or it will not build speed.
Keep a simple log of every sectional: date, section, score, wrong answers. Ten rows in, the pattern is usually obvious, and it is far more reliable than your memory of how a test felt.
What to measure in a sectional
Write down three numbers after each sectional: questions attempted, wrong answers, and minutes left when you stopped (if any). Then ask one question: which number do I want to change next time? If wrong answers are high, slow down and drop risky attempts. If attempts are low with few errors, you need speed, which means more practice in the quick topics.
Questions people ask
Are sectional mocks enough on their own?
No. They are excellent for building one subject, but only full mocks train you to switch sections and manage the whole paper. Use both.
Can I take sectionals for Mains GA and Computer?
Yes. GA is its own Mains sectional, and Computer is part of the Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude sectional.
How long should a custom test be?
Short is fine. Fifteen to twenty questions with a time limit close to exam pace, about 35 seconds each for Prelims topics, works well as a daily drill.
Is the mini mock the same as a sectional?
No. The mini mock has 10 questions from each of the three Prelims sections, so it is a small full mock rather than a single-subject test.
