How many vacancies are there in SBI Clerk 2026?

Dates & resultsUpdated 2026-10-23
Short answer

The 2026 regular notification lists 7,680 regular vacancies plus backlog vacancies (2,086 by our reading of the official table, giving 9,766 in all). A separate SC/ST/OBC special drive lists 1,538 more. Vacancies are provisional.

SBI ran two Junior Associate recruitments in 2026. Here are the numbers from the official advertisements.

Regular recruitment (CRPD/CR/2026-27/17)

SC1,114
ST837
OBC1,716

Total regular7,680

The same notification also lists backlog vacancies: 287 for SC/ST/OBC, 355 for PwBD and 1,444 for ex-servicemen and disabled ex-servicemen. That adds up to 2,086, for a total of 9,766. Some news sites report the backlog as 1,444 in total; that figure is only the ex-servicemen column, so the 9,766 total (which other reports also give) matches the official table.

A separate drive for SC/ST/OBC backlog vacancies lists 1,538 posts (SC 207, ST 1,219, OBC 112). The regular notification says its own backlog figures are net of these.

Compared with earlier cycles

  • 2025-26: 5,180 regular vacancies (6,589 including backlog)
  • 2024-25: 13,735 regular vacancies

How to use these numbers

Vacancies are counted State-wise and category-wise, and you compete only within the State/UT you applied for. So the national total matters less than the number in your own State and category. Look up your row in the vacancy table of the notification, including the PwBD and ex-servicemen columns if they apply to you.

Also note that several states had no regular vacancies in 2026 - for example Bihar, Kerala, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana do not appear in the regular vacancy table. Candidates from those states could still apply for another State/UT, provided they meet its local language requirement.

A higher vacancy count does not automatically mean an easier cut-off. States with many seats also attract many applicants, and the ratio of candidates to seats is what decides how hard the competition is.

SBI states that vacancies are provisional and may vary with the Bank's actual requirement. Check the vacancy table and any corrigendum on SBI's official careers page.
