What photo size is required for the SBI Clerk application form?

ApplicationUpdated 2026-10-23
Short answer

A recent passport-style colour photo (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm), preferably 200 x 230 pixels, in JPG/JPEG format and between 20 KB and 50 KB, taken against a light, preferably white, background.

The photograph rules are in Annexure II of the SBI notification. Here are the 2026 specifications:

ItemRequirement
TypeRecent passport-style colour photograph
Physical size4.5 cm x 3.5 cm
Dimensions200 x 230 pixels (preferred)
File size20 KB to 50 KB
FormatJPG or JPEG
BackgroundLight coloured, preferably white
Scanner settingAt least 200 dpi, true colour

Do's and don'ts

  • Look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.
  • Avoid harsh shadows. If outdoors on a sunny day, keep the sun behind you or stand in shade.
  • If you use flash, make sure there is no red-eye.
  • If you wear glasses, there should be no reflection and your eyes must be clearly visible.
  • Caps, hats and dark glasses are not allowed. Religious headwear is allowed if it does not cover your face.

Live photo capture is separate

In addition to the uploaded photo, you must capture a live photograph through your webcam or by scanning a QR code with your phone. At the exam venue, a photo captured during registration is matched against the photo in your application, so use a recent picture that looks like you.

Keep copies

SBI advises keeping about 8 copies of the same photograph. You paste one on the Prelims call letter and carry two additional copies to the exam, and more are needed at later stages. Candidates reporting without the photo pasted or without the two extra copies are not allowed to sit the exam.

If your file is above 50 KB, reduce the dpi or crop tighter. MS Paint or any basic editor can resize and save as JPG.
An unclear photo can lead to rejection. Check the specifications in the latest official notification, as they are revised from time to time.
